Then I went back to Andrew Suggs installation and had a moment with the memories. I listened again to the metronome. And walked across the room to the other speaker. i felt the
the stopping of time while hearing it continue. the video was stopped. and i collapsed my head into my hands against the all black background. and all these people were in their social circles so far away from me in a blur of socializing sound. and i held my head in my hands, and then became self aware of the moment. i was wearing black and wondered if i just blended in to the background as i felt this moment, the loss, the pause, the continuation.

can't tell you the name of it. mostly it was a halloween party. over 1,000 people were there i hear. 3 floors. we were on the list so we saved $50.00 if we had been in costume and both had to pay. they must have made a lot of money for their future travels and events. if you weren't in costume you had to pay $50 ea. steep. i danced to trance! lots of loud music. lots of people. blurry. dizzy. lots of people i knew. some chillin. some merging of scenes finally. i was a little a bit of disco for my costume. what if i told you the name? oh no. shhh. i guess the next one is around valentine's day.

why i liked it - still better than being at a club for a party. knew lots of people. people are friendly so meeting new people is fun and easy. costumes rule. the more decorated the better. there's a big giant swing though i didn't go on it this time. the chaos is great. radical self expression is pretty radical. it's definitely a good let go. yay for a good party.

Wedding 5/10/08

notes from wedding event 5/10/08 - my role was videographer, hired stalker

all in one place - excellent

gave the vendors a table behind the dj on the stage - A+ AND served us the soup - tomato so delicious, and a mixed lettuce caesar salad with a sardine, and gave us prime rib or whatever that steak is. Ironically i think i decided to go vegetarian and give up meat, chicken and cheese and sugar this week. i blew it tonight, i tasted the steak. i did not have the beef wellington at cocktail hour. but i did have a serving of the cheese tortellini, that was really good too.  ok but this was not supposed to be about my diet. tho i think food at a party is interesting. when was the last time you treated your friends or family to a dinner and drinks. a few people let alone a couple hundred. just sayin. 

so that's nice, for a good party provide food and drinks. make selections. at cocktail hour, they also served a slice of seared tuna over soba noodles. oh yum. i convinced grandpa not to get it cooked and try it how they presented it, raw, and he did! go grandpa! but he declined speaking on the video. 

they were a young couple. the dooods were awesome, energetic and participative. dancing all night and willing to leave messages on the video - yes with this co. i interview guests. it's annoying but sometimes it is fun. tonight it was both.  "i hope you stay together forever." "have a long and happy life together." "i've watched you grow from a little girl into a butterfly" (that was what the best man said. he was endearing and funny as shit) oh and another very attractive groomsman  kept pretending he was hammered and popping into the video. this i also found very entertaining. 

the saturated medium olive green color of the bridesmaids dresses was very pretty and matched the carpet of the hall. i did wonder if that was planned or coincidence. 

i liked the bride's strapless dress, white, she was really tall - i'm not so tall - and very young - um no comment - the dress part was full length balloon curtain style to the floor, it was elegant, i guess. i'm on the fence about poofy white pastry dresses and slinky ones, not sure what i would do or if that's even relevant. hey not married either. 

dj dj dj after listening to wedding music sometimes you think you like it. i heard a neil diamond song tonight that i hadn't heard in years and really liked and i heard another song i liked by a different neil but now i can't remember so maybe i didn't like it that much. so music helps a good party.  

i love the twist and shout, and the cupid shuffle. why why why and a little ymca. these make good party songs. ok and the new electric slide if you have to have the slide. because i like the reverse, a how low can go, and salsa. group dances rule!

so make sure you take care of your vendors when you have a party. 

and make sure you allocate people to do those jobs, like play music, take photos, shoot videos, cut the cake, coordinate - yes the maitre d' was a very good time keeper, in one minute we'll do the father daughter dance, in 8 minutes we'll do the mother son dance, and in exactly 10 minutes we'll cut the cake. bonus no garter / bouquet at this one. 

the dj did do one dance particularly well, the all couples anniversary dance, he invited the couple married 50 years or more first, then 45 years or more, and down the line to 25, at which point he asked for a round of applause. that's a long time of marriage and impressive. i get a little teary eyed at that. in my anti world of mainstream things some times things like that still get you. i would love to be married for a long time one day i guess i am still really conservative deep in my heart, my parents have been married over 40 years now too.  my grandparents who are now passed away lived to see their 50 year anniversary.

the wedding

it was a catholic church wedding. with lovely stained glass windows. the church was in a neighborhood surrounded by homes. i introduced myself to the priest conducting the service and he mentioned that we all had to be out of there by 3.30 so he could listen to confessions. and the thought of listening to so many peoples confessions burdened me for him. but then i thought what do people that go to church really confess? one time someone told me that they often regretted that his g/f had an abortion but he never confessed that. i bet people don't confess that too often. 

there was  big time gap between the wedding and reception so not too many people were at the ceremony. the bride was 20 minutes early to the ceremony start time.  that is unusual.  blah blah blah it was a ceremony. where they stated their vows of commitment and they already had two children, one together and one i think was not. did you know that this kind of ceremony is not legal if you are homosexual in new york, nj, or pa. 

we went to the art museum for photos which was fun.  the limo driver was a sheriff and watched the cars while we did photos/videos. i think i want to save that part of the video before submitting my work. 

bride was angry b/c the hall wouldn't let them in the room b/c they were still setting up. and there was no cocktail hour. they got there 45 minutes early and there was no comfortable place for them to go in the interim at the venue. she was livid.  after the church i had followed the limo and we stopped at mcdonalds. i hadn't been in one of those since coming back from vt to use the bathroom in feb and we didn't get anything and before that i think it was a drive thru one in new jersey two years ago.  did you know you can get any size coffee there for 99 cents? the groom treated me to a coffee. I shot him asking his wife what she would like and him placing the order along with the rest of the bridal party while the bride waited in the limo.  

the bridal party was formally announced by the dj as they walked into the room. i would love to know where this tradition started.  it seems so weird to me yet adds something to the event. the formal announced of the wedding party and the newly wed couple.  it adds hype. formal recognition. something. yet it's kind of weird isn't it? when's the last time you threw a party and announced yourselves for doing something awesome? 

so immediately after the b&g were announced i had to run from the entrance to the dance floor through the two tables with lots of people to get the b&g coming thru the arch of the bridal party as they made their way on to the dance floor for more celebrating and going into the first dance. that was a little tricky. i wanted to get the bridal party as they first walked into the room because that's where people have the most energy but the dance floor was a bit of a distance away. makes for tricky shooting when there's only one shooter

sometimes you don't want to talk you just want to listen and dance

i had people sign my sketchbook as i am soon to retire from parties

i left for a couple hours to rest and then came back around 7 am

i collected water bottles. the place was messy. two guys anthony and michael started helping me.  i felt a little paranoid by this point in time. i was uncomfortable but determined to do my work.  i collected the water bottles for my project and they collected the bottles for recycling. justin was surprised the place got cleaned up so quick

i talked to dan bell. i asked him do you think techno is post-apocalyptic? he answered sometimes. i asked him about the possibility of the dome in detroit. it seemed like a possibility. he asked me why we built a dome inside inciting. i answered to create an environment for the party.
