Hannah Wilke

How do you document your art work and present it? What would you want to see if you are the viewer?

I'm doing research to figure out how to present documentation of my art work (installation, video performance, events) in different contexts. In the course of the research I found a new website for Hannah Wilke.

if you go to "stills" page, close to the bottom of the page, the image for "Hannah Wilke: Gum Face Drawing, 1977" is so similar to a video I did during my first semester of grad school, no wonder it was recommended that I look into her. It's been really difficult to find her work online. I had found one of her videos I think on ubu.com where she plays with face like it's clay.

Lounge in the Studio

this is one of my favorite places to chill out. thinking about doing a performance for POST in October with 3 minute psychoanalysis sessions for the viewer. There will be a video set up where you get to see yourself on tv on the "couch" in the plastic environment. I will talk to you but you won't be able to see me from where you are lying. Part of the inspiration is from a performance with the same video set up at my 3rd residency at VT college and linda montano's performance piece at that same residency where everyone signed up for a 3 minute (can't remember the exact length) counseling session. After that session with her, each participant was awarded "the art/life institute performance degree" which i have stapled to my cubicle.

Imagination at Work Part 2

one time i was in australia, on a bus traveling through the desert near uluru and in the distance you could see a cloud shaped like a mushroom and it was pouring rain in that one place. we drove past it. this is the best image i could find like it.

2.36pm fields of tulips. blues, purples, red violets, as far as the eye can see. like in holland or maybe even pennsylvania.

listening to pandora radio with focus on deadbeat's style of music. that's helping too. now for some work see you in an imagination hour! yay!

ps reading about blogs and decided i'm going to blog a lot more frequently

INFINITY OF SELF VIDEOS

Familiar with the once trendy profile shot in the mirror with your digital camera? Have you ever tried it with a video camera and flipped the view finder screen around to face the mirror?

I've been interested in this theme of infinity of self in video and just found this pretty recent file on my laptop unfiled and posted it on blip. I'm using the laptop's isight camera and shooting video at the same time. it's so weird and the laughing. you can see i flick my hair and then my head in the distance on the tv is moving. talk about framing inside the frame into your puter screen here. hi i'm on video on video on video. i like to think about this in relation to the narcissistic theme explored by many early video artists as discussed by Rosalind Krauss.



this is one from two years ago, frazzled at a grad school residency, moving from unsettling thoughts of the gaze to the amazing infinity!
