I found myself being very discouraged by the art blahhhtherers. they are only reinforcing what they seem to be criticizing, the limitations of what the art blog covers of art in Philadelphia. Personally, I appreciate the ladies approach and consistency and think they have been honest about what they are doing. It has been a good resource over the years. They are respected outside of Philadelphia as demonstrated by their presence as links on other art blogs. I am still confused why this is consuming my attention, nevertheless it is...
Fortunately, I am on twitter and follow someone I met at the College Art Association conference this year - @nicknameh - and he posted the following:
In-fighting in the Art World. Jerry Saltz vs. Tyler Green. Critcism of criticism. I love it! http://ow.ly/D4ow
I followed the link and similar things are happening in New York. Lovely. And about the New Museum which I had just visited last Sunday for the Urs Fischer show and the Museum As Hub exhibitions. (I ended up loving the Urs Fischer show, I wish I could have stayed longer, being around the large abstract shapes, and the tongue, omg, my friend made me look at it, I was thinking whatever it's a tongue in the wall ha ha, but then it sprang out at me and I screamed *blush* !!!) It was a relief to read that dialogue and see the references and take my mind outside of the Philly in-fighting. My own disappointment of not getting ALL the coverage and support I would have liked for my art show this summer was alleviated. I put it in to context, these blogs haven't covered me either! In the future maybe they will. AND I did get some really some nice press coverage from both City Paper and Philadelphia Weekly, and in a couple of blogs, more than I could have imagined. Two of my artists were even interviewed which was super amazing. And that's just on the media front. Because of the show's location, I got a lot more foot traffic than perhaps a gallery would bring and attendance at the opening was great.
A nagging goal is to bring the show to a gallery next. I like the idea of being in both formal institutional spaces and non art spaces. The next step... oy vey... documentation process and business of art. I will find a way to fit you in my life. This will be decided on an artist residency in Costa Rica. I lost my job, the one I had been so excited about, and am using the time to figure out what is next.
oh stream of conscious, lots of happening, talking about myself i lost the focus... the new obsessions...inspiration...information... here are some art blogs I plan to visit more regularly:
yeah art.
