Art Market

Ed Winkleman on Bad at Sports

interesting points:

acknowledge your art is a product and it's your business

figure out who will buy it

pick a market to approach

visit the gallery(ies) at least 3 times before approaching them, there are probably 10 galleries who are a good match for you in chelsea of the 300 or so there...

make a compelling argument that contextualizes your work to that gallery - why there / challenge them to think

art can transcend everyday worries but he says it's not about escape - agree? i'm still thinking...

collectors are interested in immortality - they realized a long time ago that the only way to be immortalized is through art, like sponsoring a wing of a gallery. this kinda blew my mind for a moment

winkleman's work with one collector who has been collecting for 40 years (i wish he said who...) said the one reason artists make art or collectors collect is because you have to.

i have to.

the business side is ruling my production at the moment.

can't wait to get to the studio.
