Dear Studio 2

Dear Studio

it's been over a week since i've visited. i can't believe i've let our new schedule flounder.

some stuff that's been going that has prevented our meeting in person

- i got a job A JOB a good job a job i'm looking forward to

- i was so distracted i left you to go to another art opening for amie potsic at a new space, i can't remember the name but it was lovely to see friends after such an exciting friday the day i landed the job

- the job thing happened amazingly fast - learned of the position tuesday, submitted app on wednesday, interviewed thursday, reference checks and offer on friday.

- so i've been celebrating yay yay a job

- ok and planning - i've been writing to artists (krisanne baker, steve pauley, pam longobardi, emily roysdon, and soon the great quintini) about participating in a group show with plastic fantastic and getting a positive response. i'll be speaking to one of them - maggie nowinski - this morning. the show is about your materials and water issues. i'm very excited about it. it's going to be an extreme focus on the water bottle and water. this analysis has been walked around through our use of materials but not directly addressed. it's going to be interesting. there are concerns about the venue, the endearing studio 34 which i love so much. the work can only be up for an evening in the large rooms and then has to move to the hallway or the communal space, which is where the dome will be. it really makes the most sense to our philosophy dear studio to be at studio 34, of community and building community and working on a common vision. next week i will know more.

- oh how i digress on all the reasons of why i haven't seen you in a week

- monday hmmm monday i gave a talk on careers at moore for digital art students career class taught by karen lefkovitz. it was raining so i ended up going back home instead of to see you. it was nice to hang out with karen on the trolley home. and she told me about this group called PlayPumps and i would like to involve them in the show at studio 34. they use a playground merry go round as a well pump too to pump water. it's such a cool idea. and further addresses the water issue in a way i had envisioned is what the work is about, access to clean water.

- tuesday i went out for margaritas after work with some work friends to celebrate and came home and fell asleep. ASLEEP! dear studio that's atrocious, what juvenile behavior, one and done. one and done. these are the words to live by. then i would have seen you. i miss you soo much.

- wednesday was the senior show at moore and i went to that with kathy mueller who has been so helpful to you, she was responsible for our design of our business cards, the fluxus inspired business cards that i need to get reprinted urgently. oh fluxus!

and thursday that was last night, i knew i wouldn't make it then but i did do as opposed do do or done doing ... an art related event - an artist talk on art criticism hosted by junto who is organized by p'unk in south philly and well i tweeted about it as it went. and it went. it was like a bit of art gossip. it kind of reminded me of that caa conference session that was talking about medieval art and the futurists and was about art and ritual but in those talks at caa it seemed like i was hearing the gossip column as a presentation. meaning that the relationships of the artists and the kingdoms or governments or fascists was just as important to the art work being presented. and here at junto it was like peak into the selfperception of the philly art world. there was a conclusion that there is a distinct lack of critical theory type of criticism, the scholarly criticism of the art scene, from the diy'ers to the galleries to the museums. lots of artists doing stuff, noone giving it any review with some academic rigor. where are the art critics? and not all of them can be in new york. surely someone wants to take a stab at analyzing the shows presented here, there are so many of them. it seems like a good way to get started. art matters folded. issue of money was raised. there was no conclusion on how and where its going to be done. i like to talk about work as an artist.

oh studio i miss you and i can't get there this weekend because i am going camping. outdoor time. in spirit i will see you soon. we are going to apply for POST even though their parent body was so cruel with their lack of communication skills. without being bitter i will go ahead and apply again and continue to promote the gospel of plastic fantastic! oh studio this is a challenging place to be and exciting. i will continue i will continue. just keep making work! i will pursue the dream of making art. dear studio !

next time - i must tell you about the rutgers symposium and the notes i took about the space of the studio in one's practice, it was so inspiring!
