So i'm part of the Lubberland's Dance Troupe in philadelphia and we have one more performance tonight. It's been a cathartic experience and exciting. The contrast that happens within the 27 cheap dances emphasizes the extremities of each dance set. karl marx reads to us as we snap our fingers and the dancers circle him on a ladder. then there is the execution of money. i've never been part of an execution, and i'm not sure how i feel about it even as play. nevertheless it is kind of fun to kill money and wake up in the land with no money, though maybe that would be depressing for some?
a highlight is rolling around like a potato with the other potato people
the last part surprises the audience and takes a swift twist with a reflection on the u.s. money that went to israel that contributed to the execution of civilians, especially the children in gaza in the latest attacks. as a troupe we howl like dogs at the dead body of the child and moan in low tones the loss through our bodies as a collective group. it has left me feeling drained and pretty depressed.
i think the audience should be invited to sing the low notes with us at that point in the piece as it is probably really alienating for them. that way together we can share in the expression of the horrors of the recent war in gaza, and of death from all wars.
i can't help but be reminded of the jewish prayer of mourning, the mourners kaddish. this website has the hebrew and english translation of the prayer.
i'm digging through youtube files to find the song version. ... i remember it and sang it in my head this morning. it was helpful even though i'm not so spiritual or religious for that matter
there is a song within the mourner's kaddish prayer - oseh shalom which i love. here's it is in the tune i remember best. and this video is fun
