Meet Me In the Future

I went to the talk at Slought Foundation today. It was mostly a video screening with a few questions afterwards with the artists, Simon Leung and Yvonne Rainer. I was familiar with Rainer's work but not Leung's.

The words....

site / non site

Pym / Poe

Architecture as gateway to history
and feeling

Poe-land Poland

Rope as timeline

Cut and intercut

Rope & architecture through gesture of measuring

ENTROPY ENTROPIC
- random
- uncertainty
- measuring
- smithson
- intentionality

choreography & power

"my body remains the enduring reality" rainer ~ [the world deteriorates around me]

I was surprised that Rainer cringed at seeing herself as Poe in the video. I would have thought after years of experience that that feeling would go away. Good to know.

the side story

networking strategies
when you meet an artist who's work you have long admired, what should you do? i recommend having a question lined up so to avoid the awkwardness of being star struck and your interest in his or her work can shine and the focus will be on the content. or just get an autograph and go home. :) maybe next time.

Leung recommended the essay "Some Kind of Duration" by Pamela Lee found in the catalogue "After image" by Connie Butler / MOCA
