Last night I had the pleasure of running into John Schenk who told me he’s going to be in a group show at the Painted Bride called Synesthesia . He told us a delightful story of how his photography grew out of his approach to making music which grew out of his approach to painting. It was all very inspiring. I have been interested in the idea that for every sound there is an image and in making an abstract painted world of color and sound come to life.
Speaking of color/sound synergies... that reminds of a collective I learned about at the College Art Association Conference in LA – USCO. They were amazing, if a bit short lived. But they wanted to overwhelm the viewer’s senses with visuals and sounds to create an lsd experience where you are forced to let go because you can’t concentrate on anything because of all the senses being over-stimulated. There were some amazing quotes from USCO sprinkled throughout the presentation. They might be in my notebook or something to request from the presenter. In the meantime, I found this website and it looks like it might be a good read... and this one too
