CAA Conference

I just got back from my first CAA (College Art Association) Conference which was held in LA this year (2009). Next year if I can swing it I would stay at the conference hotel. Even though my hotel was close to the conference - 1.5 miles away and less than half the price of the recommended hotels (thanks Craig Dale) not many attendees stayed there and I think more informal interactions would happen if you encountered attendees at the hotel as well. At a non-conference hotel, you might as well stay on a friend's couch and hang out with them instead.

Fortunately I was able to attend the CAA gala on the first night of the conference held at The Getty Center . It was sold out but a friend who had booked a ticket didn't end up going. It kind of felt like going to an amusement park for art the way we waited in lines and took a tram to get to the main area. The architecture of the place was amazing. What an environment to be in and the weather was perfect. For awhile, we sat on the floor in front of the above painting by James Ensor, a favorite of my friend Pamela Calore.

With the end of fun-a-day, artclash's project where participants make/do something fun everyday for the month of january - mine was a water bottle puppet/critter a day, I decided to shoot 5-10 minutes of video day for the rest of 2009. This began the first day of travel out to the conference so I have a collection of 1-2 minute clips of every session I attended. Speaking of video, I have 3 hours left to shoot something today...video practice ignited 2009!

Nice-as you know I'm also shooting video everyday this yr. It'll be interesting to see what we both end up with.
