Insomnia and other happenings

like the CAA Conference 2010. and a new studio is in the works. and CAA Conference 2009. and about that studio. it looks good. checked it out tonight. if it works out i'm going to make a mini dome that will fit in there for my workspace.

was just looking on twitter at the # tag for whitneybiennial and saw something about kate gilmore who is in the show. i saw her speak at the ica sometime last year. i appreciated the focus of her work and the combination of installation and performance. i was annoyed at her answer to my questions about her relationship to the camera. she seemed to be quite dismissive at the time. she doesn't look at the camera. i think it's interesting to engage the viewer in your dilemma through that gaze. today over a year later i feel like i had an insight into her work that's kind of intangible to express but it's always interesting when work can still be digested over a year later; in her work is that feeling of one foot in utter despair of failure and one eye peeking into the world of achievement.
